SHOCKING: Channel Seven Drops Iconic Show After 23 Years – ‘End of an Era’ Leaves Fans Devastated!

Channel Seven is stepping into a new chapter of its storied history as the network prepares to air its first news bulletin from its brand-new headquarters in Melbourne’s CBD this Monday evening.

For nearly 25 years, 7News called Docklands home—broadcasting daily from its long-standing studios on Harbour Esplanade. Now, the entire Melbourne division has officially moved into the state-of-the-art Melbourne Quarter Tower (MQT) on Collins Street, marking one of the network’s most significant transformations in decades.

On Sunday night, the team delivered their final bulletin from Broadcast Centre Melbourne, closing the doors on an era that began in 2002. And tonight at 6 pm, viewers will witness the historic first broadcast from the stunning new studios, led by veteran anchor Peter Mitchell, alongside Rebecca Maddern and Jane Bunn.

The new facility spans two floors and mirrors the cutting-edge design of Seven’s Eveleigh headquarters in Sydney. It now houses all of Seven’s Melbourne news and sports operations, along with flagship programs such as Seven Horse Racing, Sunday Footy Feast, and The Wash Up—bringing them all under one roof for the first time.

A dedicated space has also been built for Sunrise, allowing the breakfast favourite to seamlessly broadcast from Melbourne whenever needed.

“This new home reflects where the future of media is headed,” said Seven West Media CEO Jeff Howard. “It sets a new benchmark for innovation in broadcast and digital production.”

Anthony De Ceglie, Editor-in-Chief and Director of News and Current Affairs, described the moment as “a powerful turning point” for the network.
“We’re honouring decades of history while stepping into a purpose-built environment that will elevate everything we deliver to our audience,” he said.

For Peter Mitchell—who has fronted the 6 pm bulletin every weeknight since the early Docklands era—the move is bittersweet.
“There’s definitely some sadness,” he admitted. “I’ve spent almost half my life in that building. But it’s exciting to embrace a new chapter.”

He promised viewers will instantly notice the upgrade: a much larger studio, brighter visuals, sharper screens, and a polished new aesthetic.

In a fast-changing media landscape, Channel Seven is embracing the future with confidence—and tonight, Australia will witness the beginning of its next great era.
