Aussie’s fury over driver’s ‘rude’ and ‘insane’ act at petrol station: ‘I can’t make this up’

A driver has gone on a furious rant after a woman left her car unattended at a fuel pump to enjoy a coffee, causing a long queue at a petrol station.

Ashlee Day, from Sydney, was waiting in line to get fuel when the driver in front of her quietly disappeared after filling up at the bowser.

Assuming the driver would return shortly after paying at the counter, Ashlee waited patiently behind her car for her turn.

But after 10 minutes had passed, she realised the woman was nowhere to be seen – only to discover she was lounging in a corner, drinking coffee with a man while a huge queue backed up behind her vehicle.

Drivers often leave their cars at the fuel pump to go and pay at a counter – but if they’re going to be inside for a while, it’s common courtesy to move to a designated parking spot.

‘Am I going insane or was this rude? Can someone tell me if this is rude because I’m feeling like this is rude and I don’t know if it’s how I was raised but I just wouldn’t do this,’ Ashlee said in her video in disbelief.

‘I went to fill my car up. There’s a big line, no problem, I’ll go line up behind someone. So there’s a girl in front of me, she’s filling her car up… normal behaviour.

‘She gets done filling her car up and she goes into the petrol station and she’s in there for about five minutes… I thought, maybe she’s buying stuff so who cares.

‘Then, another five minutes goes by. All these cars on the other side of me are going through, they’re just pumping through these cars. And me and two people behind me are just waiting for this chick.’

Confused, Ashlee decided to look for the driver to see what was happening.

‘I can’t make this up… she’s in the corner sitting down having a coffee with a guy,’ the makeup content creator said.

‘Is that rude? Because girl, you know damn well there’s about 14 car spots behind us. Why are you parking at the bowser and why did you walk past me and smile, acting like my a*** wasn’t waiting for you to finish?’

Ashlee moved to another queue while telling the other drivers behind her that the woman wasn’t leaving anytime soon because she was sipping her coffee inside.

‘I go to another bowser, I fill my car up and I walk past her and I just laughed because I’m thinking, f*** this girl does not give a s***,’ the driver said, laughing in disbelief.

‘First world problem, really but it just threw me off guard because I would never do that. Like common decency, really isn’t it?’

Her video has been viewed more than 120,000 times – with many sharing the unspoken rule about petrol stations.

‘Oh hell no. If it’s busy, you fuel up, move your car, park then go pay,’ one said.

‘You want a coffee? You move your car! Totally rude,’ another shared.

‘It is beyond rude. I would have turned into a Karen,’ one revealed, laughing.

‘When I know someone is behind me, I rush so fast to get served and power walk back to my car. I even feel bad if I’m taking too long to put my seat belt back on,’ another added.

‘That’s SO rude! You pay, you move your car and use a PARKING SPOT if you are gonna be longer. I feel it should be illegal to park at the petrol pump once you have paid for your petrol,’ one suggested.

One petrol station employee explained: ‘I work at a servo. This behaviour is not tolerated at my work. We ask them to move their car if they want to get food and drinks. Because it’s not a car park.’

Many said the driver had ‘poor servo etiquette’ while others revealed they could feel the same ‘rage’ Ashlee experienced.

‘That is wild to me! How rude. I could never imagine doing that, I always panic pay for fuel thinking I’m being rude and making people wait,’ one said.
